i just took eight of these ladies to the chocolate shop in marion. they are for sale for $40. (email me if you are interested in one of the ladies) they are paper mache with a delicate cut out design that exposes the inside layers.

each lady has a “title” which is a phrase that is cut out of the newspaper the day that i did “her cuttings”. the hang tag reads:
“revealed” is a series of paper mache ladies created with a randomly organized cut out pattern. the layered lacy design is decided upon when the first shape is cut out and light shines inside to reveal the message of the newspaper words and pictures that are exposed.
these previously hidden messages remind me of the many layers of women – and how we keep things “safe” inside until someone takes the time to apperciate our inner selves “revealed”.
some of the “cuttings” are left attached and hanging while most of them drop to the inside of the lady. i especially enjoy it when a “cutting” falls out – and either it is returned to the same lady or the missing piece is randomly dropped into another lady… a literal sharing of ourselves with each other…. a never ending process of giving and receiving.
most of all – i hope you take the time to look inside yourself for your own message “revealed” – and enjoy the process… – gae

gathering #24 is SOLD and i am shipping it to california tomorrow. i gathered #24 while walking on an old railroad trail in colorado in september – through the chalk creek canyon. i LOVE the yellow aspen leaf and the “whittled stick”. if you have never been in colorado when the aspen leaves are turning yellow – you should put that on your “bucket list”. it’s a beautiful time of year.

i followed a little trail of “peeled bark” to find this little stick.

FOR SALE $140.00 — i love this gathering. it’s theme is BARK… i did this gathering in colorado – and four of the pieces in the “ladder” are bark from trees around the buena vista area… and the fifth piece is a smashed bottle cap with a dog’s head on it. get it? BARK.

the lower bark is an especially nice piece – the wood stick disinigrates and leaves a great “hollow bark shell” . and the pine bark with the round hole in it is nice also…..

= and here’s that dog bottle cap. i picked it up around the recycle center in buena vista. this is a GREAT place to find “treasures”. always remember – one man’s recycle — is another artists treasure.

i made gathering #36 (SOLD) for my friend, leslie. she did the “first gathering” at her grandparents farm – and then she sent her treasures to me so that i could assemble them onto a “ladder”. leslie is truly the ONLY person that i would do this for – because i love her dearly AND because she appreciates a rusty nail as much as i appreciate a rusty nail. in fact – this gathering has THREE rusty nails.

isn’t this a WONDERFUL piece of wire / nail and white string in the yellow jar lid? leslie pulled it from the rafters of her grandparents basement – it must be full of many memories.

i gave gathering #36 to leslie today – and because i knew how important these little bits of her past were —- i also knew she would cry. and that’s okay.

and because she knew that “selling my creations” is harder for me than giving them away… she bought it so that i would learn from the experience. thanks, leslie – for helping me on this “sharing journey”.
